1)  Research Discussion and Guidelines

        We are looking at a paper on the 7 C's applied to college and university websites.

Look at two of the schools on the academic paper above and try and find violations of the 7X2 C's.  Bring your findings to Class on Thursday March 8th 2007.  Also look at Stony Brook's website and write down what privacy and security issues they have.

The 7x2 are: 

content, context- The Website has relevant meaning to its environment. 

correctness, credibility

currency, continuity

completeness, coverage

consistency, conciseness

compelling, complement

community, customization 

DON'T USE PERSONAL PRONOUNS (HE, SHE, YOU, WE etc.) IN ACADEMIC WRITING.

The research paper should be approximately 5 pages.  

Concentrate on the worst characteristics/problems of the site you are analyzing.

What tools do we use to build/develop a website?  

		1)  We use HTML and Programming to build a website.

Colleges and Universities should not use Google exclusively to maintain academic neutrality.

What are the other search engine options besides Google?

AOL, YAHOO, MSN, ASK.

What systems are Open Source? 

**HINT it uses the GNU license**

UNIX and LINUX

OPEN SOURCE-  This means that the source code for the system are available for coding and customization.

Linux and Unix are also free.
