Tuesday April 10th 2007

Next Tuesday we will have a guest speaker and food. (Provided by the Computer Club)

Today we are going to discuss the phases of your project so we can try and help you.

Your project will be judged against the 7 layers- each is 21 points.   You only need to get 100 points, so there is some room for point loss in each layer of your project.

Aim to get at least 15 points on each layer.  You do not have to wait to present the layers of your project. Present your layers as they are finished!!

Today we will focus on the content & context across the layers of your project.

It's been a long break- what are the Layers?

1)   Identity (Who is who)

Remember seven W's: (W7)

What, When, Where, Which, Who, Why, and last one is woh. (It's "how" backward)

Who-  A sort of history, mission, vision, expectations, values and goals of the company.

2)   Appearance- Does the site look good?  Is it current and continuous?  Is the site compelling?

3)  Search Layer-  We should focus on this layer.  In order to be able to criticize a search program you need to be familiar with how to write a search.  Choose a search from the book and try to code it.  Dr. Ebrahimi will help you.

Your tutorial should include a search program.  Look in the book for the solutions.  We've done one type of search (a search based on If statements in an earlier class.  Take a look at the class notes for more info.

4) HTML layer- Know the ten commandments of HTML.

5) Script Layer- Know JavaScript is the most used web script.  Don't be surprised that most people do not differentiate between Java and JavaScript. The difference between the two is that Java is on the server and JavaScript is client based.   JavaScript also cannot manage files

6) Server and Database layer- CGI, Domain names, ASP

7) Privacy, Security, Validation and Ethics- The design of the site should enforce the privacy and security of the site users. Your site should be original and information should be cited where appropriate.  Content should not be abrasive.

Each layer should be analyzed using the 7 X 2C's criteria.
The 7x2 C's are:
content, context
correctness, credibility
currency, continuity
completeness, coverage
consistency, conciseness
community, customization
compelling, creativity

It's a good idea to add a blog to your tutorial. It will provide
feedback and make your site innovative!

We looked over multiple demos.
