Internet started 1969 US department of defense.
In 1969, the US Department of defense wanted a communication system that could not be destroyed in the event of an emergency. They linked computers over telephone lines so that if one computer failed to work, the others could still communicate with each other. In the 1960's Ted Nelson popularized the hypertext concept, and Douglus Engelbert developed the first working systems. In the 1980's the web as we know it was conceived and developed in Europe by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau, then rapidly spread around the world by Marc Andreessen and the NCSE team that developed the Mosaic and Netscape browsers in the 1990's.
More uses for the Internet, and the development of standards:
As the system developed, people found other uses for this system, such as sending message and files between computers. During the 1970's standards developed in the message formats. And by the close of the 1970s computer networks had become international.
