Majority of servers on the web are UNIX servers.
Unix/Linux has much better security, Windows security is awful.
Many virus's often tend to target Windows Explorer
Unix can run for months without being restarted
Windows need to be restarted often.
Linux is free, can try out new software(jump drives, palm pilot connection)
Grant's server is running from a pentium 2 linux box.
Linux is harder to install than a windows program, but is getting easier.
Appache webserver is the most common webserver you will see.
Grants server uses CSS, HTML and PHP.
Use Secure Shell to login to server.
Opens up a linux interface(must use linux commands ie: mv, cd, ls)
Makes code on textpad and FTP's them to the server.
You can find textbooks to research about computer languages on pcfox.net (only available from the school)
You can run a server off anything, Grant found a computer off the street and installed linux on the computer and made it into a server.
Pico is removed from linux editors
From your own computer you can access Grant's server.

go to pcfox.net
click on web ssh link
wait for applet to load

when on the command it says "pcfox.net" hit enter

Login: guest
Password: student

type 'who' to see who's on the network

type vim and then hit F1 to get help
G++ for complier
file goes direct
